Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are pets allowed?

Being owners of a dog ourselves, we understand the value of four-legged family members. So yes, we will allow one dog, no bigger than 20 pounds to accompany you on your stay.

We do ask however that you please try to limit their bathroom space to the extreme corner of the property adjacent to the outdoor shed and road, and pick up after your pets with the supplied doggie bags located on the outside of the shed.

Please keep in mind that this is national park land and wildlife is abundant. Please keep your pets on a leash at all times.

Please NOTE: there is an additional non-refundable fee of $10.00 each night for your dog.

  • Do you provide linens?

Yes! There is an abundant supply of bath and bed linens at the cabin.

Each bed has three complete sets of linens available.

Please do not use the towels while enjoying the river.

  • How far is the river from the cabin?

When I was younger, I could have thrown a rock from the cabin and hit the river. Today, not so much. But yes, the river is approximately 100 yards from the cabin. You can literally sit on the porch and see the water. Or, you can build a fire within the designated fire ring and enjoy it within feet of the river.

  • Do you supply firewood?

At this time we do not supply firewood. We do maintain the yard and have the occasional tree -or large limb- fall down. When this happens, then they will be cut up and placed near the fire ring for your use.

Please do not cut any trees while visiting the cabin. There are several places around the Montauk area -including the campground at Montauk- that sells firewood. Please also be mindful of the Missouri Department of Conservation's request to purchase, and use firewood near where you are staying. This is necessary to reduce the risk of introducing invasive insects and diseases to the area.

  • Can we keep the fish we catch while staying at the cabin?

The Missouri Department of Conservation has designated the Current River -adjacent to the cabin- as "Blue Ribbon." This means only one trout 18" or longer may be kept. All other trout must be returned to the water immediately. All other species of fish are regulated under the Department's Wildlife Code. Please refer to, and become familiar with all codes before fishing.

You may fish at Montauk State Park and, with proper permits, may keep up to four trout. Again, please refer to the rules and regulations of Missouri State Parks.
